Are you considering employment in the truck driving industry? If you are, then you will be entering one of the largest and most dynamic industries in the United States. 2. Are you old enough to be able to become licensed for interstate driving?
3. What sort of trucks do you want to drive - semi-trailers, tractor-trailers, tankers, small trucks, bus etc?
4. Where do you want to go with your truck driving employment, eg. become an owner-operator? Once you have answered these questions it becomes a little easier to choose your truck driving employment with you goals in mind. For example, if your ambition is to become an owner-operator you are going to want to get as much experience as possible and the best way to do this is with long-distance driving. It will be far easier to arrange bank loans for the purchase of your own big rig with a solid driving background behind you. Before you can even look at employment in truck driving, you will need to have obtained your Commercial Drivers License and any other endorsements that will be needed for your employment. Nowadays all new recruits into the truck driving industry go through one of the many truck driving schools which gives them basic training. They also have to pass a written examination as well as their practical driving test in order to become licensed. What they are lacking though is truck driving experience, and this will come with their employment. With the big carriers these new recruits are placed with experienced drivers for a certain period of time until they gain the experience to be able to handle the trucks confidently on their own.
