Truck Drivers Job Satisfaction!
What makes a truck drivers job so different?
Most of us at some stage have been left in no doubt as to the power and size of a large fully laden tractor-trailer. It is not just their size either, these big rigs look absolutely fantastic with their often painted logos and glistening chrome. They ride heads and shoulders above all other road traffic and command attention wherever they go. The ease at which they seem to manoeuvre through traffic is awesome. High up in the cab is the man or woman behind the wheel that is responsible for taking this big monster safely over our roads. It is easy to see why a truck drivers job is so fascinating.
Some of the outfits that truck drivers will be in charge of during the normal course of their job are worth the price of a very good family home. This is a lot of money that the driver is responsible for, and is why young recruits will usually spend a set amount of time with an experienced driver in their first truck drivers job. Once the novice driver has satisfied his boss that he is ready and able to take charge of these big machines then the keys will be handed over, but not a moment before.
One can appreciate how important it is for truck drivers to take their job seriously, as in the wrong hands, these massive machines can become weapons creating horrific consequences.
Safety is an issue that is drummed into students at their truck driving schools, and then further emphasised once they begin their career in their first truck drivers job. This issue can never be too highly stressed. Many lives are ruined by trucks sent out of control either by driver error or the actions of other road users. In any event the job of a truck driver is to be forever on the alert should any trouble eventuate. Sadly a large majority of the driving population pays little heed to the fact that trucks can not stop as fast as cars and are forever cutting them off in traffic. It's these things that are part of the every day truck drivers job, particularly those that concentrate on local carrying providing the lifeblood to commerce in our cities and large towns.
Besides the many challenges of the truck drivers job, there are also the many rewards. Admittedly you may spend one day driving in atrocious weather that has kept all other road users at home, but then the next day the sun breaks through and you are sailing along the highway miles from anywhere with the picture perfect scenery gliding by. Your SatNav system tells you exactly where you are, headquarters sends you regular reports on how well your truck is doing, what your ETA is, and the whole world is sweet. You know your will be having a stop shortly and time to catch up with fellow trucking buddies. The radio has been running hot all morning with friendly chatter and laughs. There is a great camaraderie amongst those in truck drivers jobs. Never more so than in those that drive the long-haul tractors who can spend several weeks away from home at a time. The modern sleeper cabs are often fitted out with double bed, fridge, TV and microwave. It will never replace home of course, but it goes a long way in making the truck drivers job just that much more comfortable.
